Topical Relevance
What is topical relevance?
Topical relevance is matching page content with related search engine queries to achieve high rankings in search results.
Why topical relevance matters for SEO
Topical relevance is determined by many signals, including, but not limited to, how the content is written and presented on the page, the dwell time, and how the site is structured. If a search engine determines the content isn’t relevant to the target keywords and intent, the page won’t rank well in search results.
Topical relevance tips
- Mention all relevant entities to eliminate ambiguity.
- Focus on answering the intent of target search queries.
- Be concise and specific. Ensure the context of the content can be easily parsed by humans and bots.
- Reference and link to relevant pages within the content, internally and offsite.
- Use structured HTML (i.e., lists and tables) and content patterns.
- Internally link to content pages using clear and contextual anchor text.
